There are many different things to do in Playa Girón, everybody can find something to enjoy. Relax at our many beaches or take a bus tour of the area. Snorkel in the ocean or swim in a beautiful fresh water cenote. A historic tour through the museum is a must to understand our rich history and discover why Playa Girón is famous around the world. Have a fun night of dancing at the local disco or visit local bars and make new friends. And of course you can try scuba diving any time with Ronel. Like all of Cuba, our town is safe and friendly and the people who live here love to share conversation and welcome you to explore.
Be sure to visit nearby Ciénaga de Zapata, a protected biosphere reserve that has been declared the best preserved wetlands in all of the Caribbean Antilles. It boasts 900 different plant species, 175 species of birds, 31 species of reptiles and over 1000 species of unique invertibrates, an ecological treasure. Because of Playa Girón's proximity to this reserve, you will have the chance to see many unique species of birds native only to Cuba- including the world's smallest hummingbird, the Bee Hummingbird. Keep your eyes open for Jutia, the largest endemic land mammal in Cuba that live in trees.
For a change of pace, Ivette can arrange a day trip to neighboring cities such as Cienfuegos, Varadero or Trinidad. The drive to and from these cities will be just as interesting as your destination, you will see countryside and villages that very few tourists have been to. If you are lucky you will have the chance to do all of this in a classic American car from the 1950's!
